Did you know that October is Dyslexia Awareness Month? Bring your creativity and curiosity to the San Carlos Library as we paint inspirational messages on rocks and learn more about dyslexia. Board members from the International Dyslexia Association of Northern California will be there to paint alongside you and to answer questions. Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability affecting 15-20% of the population. Despite having talented and productive minds, people with dyslexia may find reading, spelling, and sometimes other skills more difficult to acquire. Structured literacy and robust partnerships between families and schools can help children with dyslexia succeed in school. Many individuals with dyslexia are also known for their innovative thinking, pattern detection, problem-solving, and interpersonal relationship skills. Successful people, including architects, lawyers, engineers, actors, and novelists, had difficulty learning to read and write as children.
